Vocus alleges its response to a cyberattack caused internet outages in New Zealand.

Vocus NZ, New Zealand’s third-largest internet provider, stated on Friday that its response to a cyberattack resulted in a temporary internet outage.

The business started its systems stopped a denial of service (DDoS) attack on one user, but in doing so, they caused outages for several Vocus customers in the country’s biggest cities, including Auckland, Wellington, and Christchurch. The problem was resolved in 30 minutes, according to Vocus.

“We are working closely with the vendor of this platform to understand why this occurred,” a representative for the company stated.

A DDoS assault occurs when hackers overwhelm a server with a deluge of internet traffic, causing it to crash.
