Microsoft is looking into the Teams outage, which has caused thousands of users’ services to go down

According to an outage tracking website, Microsoft Corp’s (MSFT.O) messaging service, MS Teams, was unavailable for thousands of users on Thursday, and the firm stated it was investigating the incident.

The Redmond, Washington-based corporation blamed the outage on “a recent release that featured a failed link to an internal storage service.” Still, it did not specify how many people were affected.

MS Teams is an essential aspect of business operations because employees utilize it to interact internally, message one another, make calls, and manage their workflow.

According to Downdetector.com, which analyzes outages by aggregating status updates from sources, including user-submitted mistakes on its platform, there were over 4,800 customers reporting issues with Microsoft Teams on Wednesday.

According to Downdetector, more than 1457 users are now affected. The site monitoring business also discovered over 150 customers reporting problems with Microsoft Office 365.

Microsoft tweeted that it has detected the downstream impact of Teams integration on numerous Microsoft 365 services, including Microsoft Word, Office Online, and SharePoint Online.

“We’ve taken action to divert some traffic to provide some respite within the environment,” the statement stated.

In its January earnings call, Microsoft stated that Teams had topped 270 million monthly active users as demand for remote business-oriented teleconferencing and messaging tools skyrocketed and became a significant fixture for enterprises during the COVID-19 pandemic, as individuals worked from home.

Other major digital businesses have also had failures in the previous year, with a nearly six-hour outage at Meta Platforms (META.O) last October, placing WhatsApp, Instagram, and Messenger out of reach for billions of users.
