IQM: Redefining Quantum Computing for a Brighter Future

Quantum computing systems are developing rapidly as powerful solvers for a variety of real-world calculations. Traditionally, many of these same applications are solved using conventional high-performance computing (HPC) systems, which have progressed sharply through decades of hardware and software improvements. IQM is the European leader in building quantum computers. IQM provides on-premises quantum computers for supercomputing centers and research labs and offers full access to its hardware. For industrial customers, IQM delivers quantum advantage through a unique application-specific, co-design approach. IQM is building Finland’s first commercial 54-qubit quantum computer with VTT, and an IQM-led consortium (Q-Exa) is also building a quantum computer in Germany. This computer will be integrated into an HPC supercomputer to create a quantum accelerator for future scientific research. IQM has over 230 employees with offices in Paris, Madrid, Munich, Singapore, and Espoo. Since its founding in 2018, IQM has expanded to over 190 workers and created subsidiaries in Munich, Madrid, and Paris.

For research labs and supercomputing facilities, IQM provides on-premises quantum computers and full access to its hardware. Through a special application-specific co-design methodology, IQM offers industrial customers a quantum edge. The QPU clock speed is increased by using exclusive on-chip components in IQM’s second-generation quantum computers. For achieving the quantum advantage, quantum operations have been both too error-prone and too slow for scalable mistake correction. To create reliable, application-specific quantum computers, IQM uses a distinctive methodology that incorporates increasing levels of specialization. Their co-design approach aims for the best hardware and algorithmic adaption to address problems that are pertinent to the industry. IQM for HPC offers computational acceleration with on-premise quantum computing hardware, ensuring the fastest, most secure, and low-latency data transfer between the classical and quantum systems. IQM’s proprietary technology improves in three key areas: reset, gates, and readout. The fastest, safest, and lowest latency data transfer between the classical and quantum systems is ensured by IQM for HPC, which provides computational acceleration with on-premise quantum computing gear. A sustainable alternative to the expanding computational needs is provided by quantum technology. IQM for HPC, which offers computational acceleration with on-premise quantum computing hardware, ensures the fastest, safest, and lowest latency data transfer between the classical and quantum systems. Quantum technology offers a viable option to the growing computational requirements.

Customers may combine the best of both worlds due to this technology, which enables the parallel operation of quantum processing units (QPUs) and traditional high-performance computing. In this scenario, certain computational tasks are delegated to QPUs. When specific components of extremely challenging computations are handled by a QPU, this combination will accelerate those workloads exponentially, boosting total computing performance.

IQM is at the forefront of quantum computing development in Europe, providing its cutting-edge solutions to both industrial and academic customers. With its unique application-specific, co-design approach, IQM is driving technological breakthroughs that will reshape the way we solve real-world problems. “We are always pushing the boundaries and exploring new possibilities to create even better products and services for our customers,” says Jan Goetz CEO of IQM.
